Electric Rain is the industry leading developer & supplier of 3D to flash solutions. Whilst this might not mean much to most of our readers, the Electric Rain software suite is to the designer what the chisel is to the carpenter - an essential tool of the trade. MMID's DELL interactive 'Customer Experience' DVD Business Card project has been selected as one of only 40 projects worldwide showcasing outstanding and innovative use of Electric Rain's Swift3D technology. We were delighted to hear a few weeks ago that one of our customers, Waterford Institute of Technology's Mergo [Tourism] Network had been short listed for a Net Visionary Award for 'Educational contribution' by the Irish Internet Association. The mergo team, headed by Anne-Marie Frampton, has been very successful in using technology to bring it's members closer together. We would like to congratulate the team on the nomination and wish mergo every success on the 15th of November, award night.

In our last issue, we introduced Multimedia Instructional Design (MMID)'s latest CPD (Continuous Professional Development) offering, the on-line BER Assessor course, delivered through MMID's on-line college on behalf of Chevron Training Limited. The course is FETAC approved and offers students a convenient and flexible alternative to a classroom environment. The BER course, which has been promoted extensively on-line and at trade shows using a specially produced CD-ROM business card, is already proving extremely successful with the first students whom we look forward to see graduating shortly.

Currently in production at MMID are two new e-Learning modules for Down Syndrome Ireland. The first module will concentrate on using a popular entertainment site while the second will focus on creating one's own web page. The two courses complement a series of 5 existing courses developed by MMID to teach teenagers with Down Syndrome how to use the Internet and e-mail. Although slightly more advanced in terms of learning content, the new modules will be based on the same usability principles as the previous courses. The courses are due for delivery before Christmas and will be freely available from the Down Syndrome Ireland website.

Usability is not just another trendy word and when it comes to shop floor control systems, usability can mean better productivity through faster and more intuitive operation. This is why a leading global Medical Devices Manufacturer called upon MMID to design the new face of their global manufacturing software. A series of icons and visuals were designed in partnership with software developer Dataworks to integrate seamlessly with existing code. Since the system is rolled-out globally, the interface had to 'speak many visual languages' - helping the operator to take actions without having to read and enforcing visual consistency across the world.

Just in: Leading south-east based global Medical Devices Manufacturer selects MMID to develop it's corporate intranet. Commissioned by the company's corporate communications department, the company will be using cutting-edge tools to enhance and facilitate communication amongst its 1500 strong workforce.
